Blazy IPA

6.1%
A blazing IPA made with all New Zealand hops and Blackberry Kush terpenes.

A signature mix of Nectaron, Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin hops packs the chamber with a mix of intense tropical pineapple and stone fruit characters (Nectaron), powerful passion fruit (Riwaka) and distinctive New World white wine characters (Sauvin).

The Blazy also offers solid scents of white nectarine, summer grapes and freshly cut half time oranges. The astute palette may also pick up earthy lemon and grapefruit tones. A signature "Otto's Jacket" aroma from the added terpenes rounds this dragon out with signature Cheech and Chong vibes - making it a perfect sip for when you drop your keys and think the phone is ringing. OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Brewing with the essence of hops

Its become a popular new process to experiment with liquid hop terpenes, incredibly potent isolates of aromatic compounds that exist in all plants and can deliver a big taste and distinct aroma to an IPA bouquet.

So what is a terpene?
Terpenes are described as nature’s aromatic architects. These natural chemicals are the aromatic molecules responsible for the unique fragrance of flowers, the zest of citrus fruits, the soothing scent of pine forests, and even the earthy notes of freshly turned soil. Hops and terpenes are inseparable. Hops and cannabis are closely related plant families, which is why it’s no surprise that hops and cannabinoids have quite a few similarities.

Terpenes are what give hops their unique and intense flavors and aromas. Some terpenes are naturally present in drinks. For example, anything with citrus or hops in it will already contain high-flavor terpenes. Additional terpenes can be added to already delicious drinks or combined with bitters to create unique flavor profiles in more mundane beverages. One of the best places to get strong, flavorful terpenes is from the cannabis plant. Hops and cannabis both contain multiple terpenes with distinct flavor profiles. Terpenes sourced from cannabis don’t contain cannabinoids - so they won’t make you high.

Terpenes in beer can include both naturally occurring ones from the hops and another added to enhance flavor profiles or make them more complex. Naturally occurring terpenes in beer can deliver a hoppy flavor, a spicy kick, a citrusy tartness, or a floral sweetness. Selected isolated terpenes added to beer can be utilised to temper strong flavors and bring complexity to boring ones. The right terpene combination added during the brewing process can even pull formerly hidden aromas and flavors to the surface in unexpected and exciting ways.

Which terpene did we use?
Blackberry Kush. An indica strain very effective for pain management and full-body relaxation thanks to its’ sedative effects. The primary terpenes found in Blackberry Kush include pinene, myrcene, and caryophyllene. Pinene terpenes have an anti-inflammatory effect on humans. They can also help improve airflow and respiratory functions with their happy, relaxed, sleepy effect profile.

Flavours and Aroma?
Ripe, juicy dark berries and notes of bright citrus hover over a dank and earthy kush base in this fruity, blackberry-forward strain. Though the exact origins are elusive, the sweet, earthy flavor of Blackberry Kush strain is widely believed to come from crossing Afghani with Blackberry.
